No, you should not put your home address on your resume for remote jobs. Your address does not help a recruiter decide if you can do the job. It is personal information they do not need at the resume stage. Keeping it off also protects your privacy.

What to include instead is simple: your name, email, and a LinkedIn or portfolio link. If you want to add something helpful for remote work, add your time zone. This helps with interview scheduling and shows you understand remote work basics.

There are a couple of times when location details help.

If the job post clearly says “US only” or “must be in the UK” or names a state, then you can list that level of detail, like “Texas, USA” or “United Kingdom.” Do not add a street address. A city is optional, but in most cases, I keep it broad so it doesn’t create any privacy issues if the job is a scam.

Sometimes an application system forces you to enter an address. That is different from your resume. If a form requires it, fill it in there. Your resume can still stay clean and focused.

When a recruiter asks where you are based, give a clear and honest answer. The goal is not to hide anything. The goal is to stop your resume from being rejected for admin reasons before they have even seen your experience. So my rule as a remote job coach is this: leave your home address off your resume. Add a country, state, or time zone only when the job requires it or when it clearly helps.

What if the application requires my home address on the resume?

If the application requires your home address on the resume, follow the instructions and use a separate version of your resume just for those applications. Keep the address in the header and keep it as minimal as the system will accept, for example, city, state, and postal code.

If they truly require the full street address, include it only when you trust the employer and are applying through their official system, not a random email or third-party site.

How do I share my location when applying across time zones?

When applying across time zones, share your location in a way that answers the real concern: working hours. On your resume header, write “Remote” plus your time zone, like “Remote, GMT+8.” In your cover letter, add one clear overlap line, like “I can overlap 3 to 4 hours with ET”, so they can picture you fitting into the team.
