About the author
Traditionally, computer-based jobs took place in an office environment. With the emergence of the internet and new technology, over the last ten years, the opportunity to work from home has become more commonplace.
To work remotely, you are using a laptop and can work from anywhere there’s an internet connection. You could work from the comfort of your home, in a coffee house or co-working space. Remote working is based on the concept that work does not need to be done in a specific place to be executed successfully.
What does it mean to work remotely?
A few advantages of remote work are that you do not have to commute, fewer distractions, and working from home. The disadvantages are that disconnecting from work can be isolating and difficult.
Some remote workers prefer to work and travel, and while this comes with challenges, you can work from anywhere.
Remote work options
So, are you seriously considering quitting the office and working from home, but not sure what options are available?
Remote jobs can come in different forms: you could be a contractor, working on short-term contracts for a specific company, either part-time or full-time. You could be a full-time employee working for a company, but your location is remote.
Both options give you a smaller amount of freedom and flexibility than freelancing. Still, more important to many is a regular income over not knowing when freelance clients will process your invoice.
Freelance work is what a person does for themselves instead of being employed by the company and can involve client work for organizations. A freelancer is essentially self-employed and works from all over the employment sector.
